They hire an outsourced call centre to make those calls. I changed my plan with them and Bord Gais sent me out a letter. It's hardly a scam if it's calling from an Irish call centre where you can track the number. -

It *is* bord gais offering services like bolier services. I use them every year and get my boiler serviced with them. They arrive in a bord gais van, with bord gais uniforms service my boiler and the "payment" for said service goes on my bord gais bill.. No money exchanges hands. I understand that a lot of people are concerned about scams, but this is just a call centre operating on behalf of Bord Gais.

Received a call from this number on Thursday on 2nd April, 2015. Gentlemen on the other side informed me that he worked for Bord Gais. To cut to the chase he wanted me to sign up for a level pay 12 month (electric) contract with Bord Gais, I wasn't impressed and informed him i will do my own research and if i wanted to sign up for such a service i would ring him back. (Bord Gais do provide my electric needs). It got interesting as he informed me that i could not contact him through this 023 number and he could schedule a time to call me again. Alarm bells rang so i said no thanks and good bye. I am a current customer of Bord Gais and I have sent an email enquiring if he was indeed one of their employees.
Ben89 replied 5/27/15, 9:25 PMHe's not a direct BG Employee, BG use a company for sales and they use a Bandon call centre to call people from their existing customer base to offer them new deals. BG pay them to make the calls. You couldn't call him back because he's calling from a call centre dialling out and your call wouldn't go to him directly if you called the number. That's how call centres work. -

Hang up and report them to telecom eireann - and or regulator . This is most definitely a scam - they have been plaguing us with calls with no message. My guess is that these sharks are doing some behind the scenes switching of providers. In this electronic age I bet they don't even need a signature, or if they do no one is following it up. It is likely they will not have told you that this is how it really operates. They are probably then collecting a commission for every switch. As for a letter coming from Board Gas in the post - I would double check that by calling Board Gas directly and asking them if it is legit. In an age of digital printers to knock out a letter head from Board Gas is a doddle for these sharks, unfortunately you can't even trust what is/isn't a real document.

They don't ask for money or anything over the phone and the call centre is based in Bandon in Cork. Bord Gais hire them to do their sales. They're not a scam, they're just very annoying and persistent. I changed to level pay and since the conversation with them I've been on level pay. called BG to confirm and was posted a letter. They told me how much my bill would cost and now it costs that much. No big deal. -

received unsolicited cold call from a male purporting to be from Bord Gais and trying to sell me a boiler service. He asked me to confirm my address. I said 'you called me and now you want my address' he said he cant tell me my address even though he said he has it in front of him - the reason being data protection. I then said why am I supposed to trust that you are who you say you are? He said we are a very reputable company. I asked him to email me to arrange a phone appointment for tomorrow evening. He said he cant because of data protection. I told him that I am big into the data protection concept as well and that if he wants to sell something to someone he shouldnt cold call then ask for my address. I also told him that I would lokk after my own boiler service privately. Funny thing is if they were straight with me and sent me a letter or email I would have booked a service as I need one. Ah well maybe they'll cop on one day.

Rang me, didnt leave me a msg. Rang me again to say they are ringing on behalf of Bord Gais that my boiler needs servicing. Politely told him to google what ppl say about the number, asked him why the voice mailbox when i phoned bk was full (he couldnt answer me), asked him why, if its a legit company why they didnt leave voice msg when he rang 1st time, he said its not company policy (alarm bells!). Told him if he was ringing on behalf of Bord Gais then they would know my boiler was serviced in August!!! He didnt know what to say. I asked him to confirm my address.he wouldnt. Then he asked me to tell him it, i wouldnt. I rang Bord Gais boiler service dept, guy told me their only service number is an 1800 number. Still dont know what they want or what they are trying to get out of me. Cant wait for them to ring me again, i have the whistle ready!!!

It's hardly a scam calling from a call centre in Cork in all fairness. They don't ask you for money, or any of your details needed to scam you. I got a call from them and then I got confirmation from Bord Gais by letter a few days later. All utility companies do this. -

calling twice in one day, both times hung up within a second. if its bord gais, I know now I WON'T be their customer. Decent and trustworthy company must teach their staff AT LEAST apologize, if they reach wrong customer or person. If they have neither this basic manners, end of story. No way.

They've been calling me several times a day for weeks now to sign up to their rewards/deals thing which is basically just another daily deals site. I have no interest. I have told them this. I have asked them to remove me from all marketing lists. Every time they promise they have removed me but the next day it starts again.

They're set up for incoming calls. And call centres have hundreds of employees with individual extensions they would be calling from. It's very possible that the person you spoke to from BG just didn't recognise the number. -

Calling from bord gais offering to move me onto a cheaper plan, legitimate reason for calling. Some of the people moaning here are probably the same people that would complain that their bills are too high and that they're never offered any deals.
