Automated message on my voicemail saying criminal charges would be raised if I didn't call the number back. Didn't call it back and blocked the number.

I received a call saying I had a tax refund from this Waterford number. Said they were Irish tax Refund Co and I had €592 of refund. Looked for government card (if governments employeee?) or my credit card. Aggressive when I didn't give it to him. I could see how people would give their details away. Very persuasive.

I missed the call and called back as it was a local number, person with Indian sub-continent accent said I was due a refund from Revenue, hung up when I suggested it was a scam call. I called Gardai, they said new scam using local numbers in place of getting those "overseas" number calls. Gardai said they can do nothing, can report to Eir. Eir would not put me through to Fraud Dept., they just took the number and confirmed what Gardai said. They did not offer any hope of stopping the scam as internet-based, they would not engage with me when I suggested that as the call is being routed through an Irish landline number, they should be able to disrupt the scammers (at least disabling that number).
