Following the call indicating they were going to send me a new Internet Box, I went onto the site and chatted in direct with one of the customer Care agents. At first he didn't recognize the number. Later on in the conversation, I asked him to check his CRM system to see if a call out had taken place from their premises to my mobile number. He was able to verify that it was and offered to replace my Internet box with a new modem. I will still block the unrecognized number in case there are any marketing follow-up calls.
Re. the unrecognized number, I believe that it could be based on their telephony system which provides an Irish number to prevent call drops from customers.

Even though my preferences are for email only, these people saying they are from Virgin Media have called 10 times in the last week, number is blocked but I can see the attempts in the call log.
Either Virgin Media were compromised and customer details stolen and being used for phishing, they have sold them on or they just are not playing by the upcoming GDPR rules.

Number blocked for good.

Very annoying telemarketing harassment from Virgin Media. Blocked their number on my phone, so they started bothering my wife (not sure how did they get her mobile number) asking why I'm not answering calls. Blocked that number on her mobile too.

I have been receiving a constant stream of missed calls from this number both to my work and mobile numbers. They never leave a message. I answered today to find it was Virgin Media's Loyalty Team. I was half way through asking them to take me off their list when they hung up. I also checked my online preferences (I am with Virgin Media) and see I had selected to be contacted by mail only.
